4 tips to make a good first impression on a date

Do you have a date coming up?

Are you just entering back into the dating scene?

A veteran dater?

First dates can be nerve-racking and exciting at the same time. We’ve compiled 4 tips to make an excellent first impression on a first date. Whether you met at the supermarket, your friends set you up or met online, making an excellent first impression is crucial and could land you a second date.

  1. Be on time

Showing up late for anything is a big no-no, especially a date. A first date nonetheless. Not only is keeping someone waiting incredibly rude, but it also gives off the impression that your not that interested. If you were interested, you would have planned ahead to be there on time. I get that some situations are unavoidable; if that’s the case, call or text your date with a heads up that you are running behind.

  • Put your best foot forward

Cleaning yourself up and putting some effort into your appearance is a great way to make a lasting first impression. You don’t have to go all out and spend the day at the salon or rent a suit; I mean, if that’s your style, then go right ahead. Showing up with clean and tidy clothes, your hair brushed, smelling good and looking like you take pride in your appearance doesn’t have to be complicated but is necessary.

  • Be confident

People who are confident have a certain air to them. You can pick out the people who are confident from a crowd; they carry themselves differently. Be sure to show up confidently to your date. Being awkward and shy is a sure deal breaker.

  • Choose a good meeting place

Deciding on where your first date is should be agreed upon by both parties. You could do a traditional dinner, a fair, museum, zoo wherever the date is to take place it’s important that you are both comfortable. Try to avoid more private settings, like going to the other’s house that might give off the wrong impression.

Dating etiquette is a guideline for what to do or not to do on a date. The most important thing you can do is show up as yourself. Keep in mind the three dating rules: good manners, good behaviour and be respectful. Follow these rules, and you’ll find yourself with a second date.
